In 1967, Sir Francis Chichester did what nobody had ever done before. During the previous five centuries no daring adventurer had ever sailed anywhere alone, not Cook, not Columbus, not Drake, not Game, not Balboa, not Cortes, no one. Chichester however did it. He was 65 years old. He took 226 days to make it. He sailed 29600 actual miles. He did it on a modern sailboat single-handedly. The 53-foot original is maintained and dry-docked at the National Maritime Museum, at Greenwich, England.
